A rare species

We arrived in Vientiane at around 4:30 in the morning and sat on a corner "downtown" waiting for everything to open. This town is easily the smallest capital of any country I've ever been to.

I never saw a street sign in Laos until we got to Vientiane. There's not a lot of them, but every 10th intersection or so you might find one if you look carefully.

We hung around a couple of days and I got a new tourist visa from the Thai embassy (they wouldn't give me the non-immigrant visa). Then we backtracked north by bus a few hours to go to Vang Vieng.
